Regional Mathematics Olympiad - Competition Guidelines

Eligibility Criteria

Academic Level: Students completing their first, second, third, or fourth year of university in regional education

Age Requirement: Maximum age of 23 years at the time of competition (exceptions may be granted)

Minimum Age: No minimum age limit

Working Language: English

Competition Structure

Examination Details

Number of Problems: 8 problems
Marks per Problem: 10 marks
Total Marks: 80 marks
Time Allotted: 120 minutes (2 hours)
Question Format: All questions must be answered

Evaluation: Students' work will be evaluated by the Script Evaluation Committee using criteria provided by the NUMO committee.

  • Real & Complex Number Systems
  • Polynomials and algebraic equations
  • Summation of algebraic and trigonometric series
  • Inequalities
  • Applications of DeMoivre's theorem
  • Linear Algebra (Matrices and determinants, Basis and Dual basis, Linear transformations, Eigen system, Annihilators, Adjoints, Operators, Applications)
  • Groups, Rings and Fields

2. Analysis (Real and Complex)

  • Infinite series and Convergence
  • Complex Integration
  • Bilinear transformations
  • Single variable Calculus
  • Multivariable Calculus
  • Vector Calculus (Theorems of Green, Gauss, Stokes)
  • Differentiation and Integration applications
  • Modelling with first and second order differential equations
  • Special functions

3. Analytic Geometry

  • Second degree equations
  • Conics
  • Planes and straight lines in 3D
  • Conicoids
  • Applications of geometry

4. Combinatorics

  • Permutations and Combinations
  • Primes
  • Arithmetic functions
  • Congruence
  • Recurrence relations
  • Generating functions
  • Complexity

Important Notes

• Problems will be drawn from all four subject areas: Algebra, Analysis, Analytic Geometry, and Combinatorics

• Participants should have a thorough understanding of all topics listed in the syllabus

• Time management is crucial - allocate approximately 15 minutes per problem

• All answers must be written in English

• Clear, logical presentation of solutions is essential for maximum marks
